Authors Guidance

General Information

Authors should prepare manuscripts according to APA style and follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (latest edition). Typing expectations and instructions on preparing tables, figures, references, metrics, and abstracts appear in the Manual.

To support double-blind review, identifying information (including author names within the manuscript, references, acknowledgements, and footnotes) should be removed and replaced with “Author” and year where appropriate.

Figures and tables should be embedded within the manuscript rather than included as appendices.

All manuscripts must be 1.15 spaced, right and left justified, and use Baskerville 12-point font.

All manuscripts should use internally consistent spelling, grammar, and language (American and British English will both be accepted). 

Authors are encouraged to write in a clear and accessible scholarly style and to avoid unnecessary jargon, excessive technical language, and overuse of Latin phrases where possible.

Sparingly employ italics, rather than underlining for emphasis (except with URL addresses).

Authors of accepted manuscripts may be asked to assist with final formatting in accordance with JoCE publication requirements.

Word limits and formatting expectations vary by submission type. Please refer to the relevant manuscript type guidance linked below for detailed requirements.

All manuscripts must include:

• a title
• an abstract
• five keywords

Author names should appear on the separate title page only and not within the manuscript itself.

Title Page

Every submission must include a separate title page document.

The title page should include:

• title of manuscript
• full author name(s)
• institutional affiliation
• country
• email address(es)
• contact number(s)
• DOI identifier(s), where applicable

Generative AI Use

Authors must adhere to the JoCE Generative AI Disclosure policy. Where generative AI tools have materially contributed to the substantive content, analysis, or intellectual framing of the work, this must be clearly disclosed.

The use of generative AI as part of idea development, reflection, language refinement, or editorial support does not require disclosure. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of their work.

Integrity of Submissions

Submissions to the Journal of Coaching Ethics are checked for originality.

By submitting to JoCE, authors agree that, if accepted, their work will be published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International License.

This license permits sharing with proper attribution but does not allow commercial use or modifications without permission.

The Journal of Coaching Ethics does not charge any fees for submission or publication.

Authors retain copyright of their work and grant JoCE the right of first publication.
